Lipiflow® is a dry eye treatment device specifically designed to effectively clear blockages from the Meibomian glands, restoring healthy production of the oils that make up the protective surface layer of the tear film. Meibomian gland dysfunction has been identified as a principal cause of dry eye disease. It results in the tear film becoming unstable, leading to excessive evaporation of tears. The activator device warms the eyelid to 42.5°Ϲ, liquifying any thickened oils within the Meibomian glands. Regulated pulsating massage is applied to the eyelids to expel the stagnant oils and to help promote healthy Meibomian gland function.

I have found Lipiflow to be an extremely helpful tool to treat Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). In the past, we have recommended warm compress therapy to our patients in an attempt to heat the Meibomian glands & reduce blockages caused by thickened oils.
